HISTORY
History of HAMACHIRIMEN INDUSTRIAL (COOPERATIVE) ASSOCIATION
As far back as 712 years ago, there is a record of "twilled silk" being woven here in Nagahama.
In the Heian period (794-1185), Nagahama was known as the leading producer of "Kami-yarns" and has been producing high quality silk fabrics since ancient times.
With Lake Biwa to the west and Mt. Ibuki, a sacred mountain, to the east, the natural environment of the northern part of the lake, along with its beautiful scenery, is ideal for silk weaving.
Nagahama silk is woven using traditional techniques handed down through generations in this region, with the abundant cold groundwater stored by Mt.
Nagahama silk is the crystallization of "white beauty" nurtured by the natural blessings of Shiga Kohoku and the wisdom of craftsmen who have understood and carefully preserved them.
